Copyright and textual basis
This edition publishes exclusively Hegel’s primary text, which is in the public domain († 1831, long in the public domain, § 64 of the German Copyright Act, UrhG). The copyrighted scholarly apparatus of the Gesammelte Werke (Felix Meiner Verlag) is not reproduced. A detailed account of the copyright basis can be found on the page Copyright and Use of the Works.
The portrait of Hegel on the home page was painted by Jakob Schlesinger in 1831. It is in the public domain — the painter died in 1855, and the term of protection of 70 years after the author’s death expired long ago.
The photograph used here comes from Wikimedia Commons, where it is marked as public domain. For faithful reproductions of public-domain visual works, § 68 UrhG expressly excludes a separate right of protection in the digitization.
The second image shows the title page of the first edition of the Phänomenologie des Geistes (Bamberg und Würzburg, bey Joseph Anton Goebhardt, 1807). The print is in the public domain; the photograph likewise comes from Wikimedia Commons, where it is marked as public domain.
