This notice describes briefly which data are processed when you visit this website and whom you can contact with questions about data protection.

2. Access data
When you visit the website, the hosting provider may process server log data that are technically necessary. These may include in particular the IP address, date and time of access, browser type, operating system, and requested file.
3. Purpose of processing
The processing serves to provide the website, to keep it stable and secure, and to analyze technical errors.
4. Local settings and cookies
This website does not use cookies for advertising, analytics, or tracking.
To measure reach, Vercel Web Analytics, a service of Vercel Inc., is used. It sets no cookies and stores no persistent identifiers. Visits are counted by means of a hash value formed from the IP address, browser identifier, and date, which changes daily; recognition beyond the day or across several devices is therefore not possible, and no usage profiles are created. The pages visited, the referring source, the approximate region of origin, and the device type and browser are recorded.
The purpose is the statistical evaluation of usage in order to develop the service according to need. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest). Since no information on your device is accessed and nothing is stored on it, the provider takes the view that no consent under § 25 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act) is required.
To measure loading speed, Vercel Speed Insights is also used. It collects technical performance values of page rendering (such as load times, Web Vitals) together with the page visited, device type, and approximate region of origin; no cookies are set, no persistent identifiers are stored, and no usage profiles are created. The legal basis is likewise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a fast, stable service).
The Mac app of the Hegel Edition checks once a day at www.hegeledition.com whether a new version is available. For technical reasons it transmits the IP address and its program identifier (name and version of the app and of the update library used, Sparkle). To find out how many devices use the app on a given day, a hash value is formed from this, salted with the date and a server-side secret and changing daily. All that is stored per day is the number of these hash values, the number of requests, and the distribution by version and country of origin. This makes it impossible to recognize a device beyond a single day or to link it to a person; what you read in the app does not leave your device. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (DSGVO) (legitimate interest in the further development of the service).
Only your own display settings are kept in your browser’s local storage — such as color scheme, reading view (Print layout / Reading text), font size, the passage last read, and your acknowledgment of this notice. These data remain on your device, are not transmitted to the server, and do not allow any conclusions about your person.
Since this is storage that is strictly necessary for the service you have expressly requested, no consent is required for it (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can delete the stored data at any time through your browser settings.
5. Reader survey (5 to 15 November 2026)
During this period a small window asks you to take part in a voluntary survey with six questions. Only if you click “Submit” are the following transmitted: your answers, an optional free-text comment, the page on which you completed the survey, and the device class (phone, tablet, or computer). These data are stored with the hour of receipt, but without IP address and without identifier; they cannot be linked to a person unless you give personal information in the free text.
The answers are kept in a database of the Upstash service (Upstash, Inc.), operated for this website via Vercel; they are evaluated solely to improve the edition and will be deleted by 31 May 2027 at the latest. The legal basis is your consent by submitting (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). So that the window does not appear again, your browser records in local storage whether you took part, declined, or chose “Later”, and how many pages you have viewed so far; these data do not leave your device.
6. External links
This website links in several places to external services (e.g., Ko-fi for voluntary support, GitHub, X/Twitter). These are simple hyperlinks; no data are transmitted to these providers when this website itself is accessed. Only when you actively click such a link do you leave this website, and the privacy policy of the respective provider then applies.
7. Your rights
Within the scope of the statutory provisions, you have in particular the right to access, rectification, erasure, and restriction of processing, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
8. Contact
